At Bristol Ballet Centre, students are entered for Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet exams and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) tap and modern exams from Pre-Primary through to Advanced 2.

Examinations are optional and, while this is something we encourage for the sense of achievement, those who choose to opt out of this process will still move up and remain with their class provided they have reached the required standard.

Students will be entered for an exam when both the teacher and Principal feel the correct standard of technique has been achieved.

The graded syllabus – Pre-Primary to Grade 8 – provides a broad, practical dance education and develops technical, musical and performance skills.

The vocational examinations – Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2 – are by invite only, as a higher level of ability and commitment is needed due to the fact that these provide an in-depth study of ballet and prepare students for a career in dance.

Graded and vocational examinations in Dance at RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework) Level 3 are allocated points on the UCAS Tariff. This means that candidates who have achieved a pass or higher in Grades 6,7, 8, Intermediate and Advanced Foundation can used their RAD exam result towards their points tariff when applying to University or Higher Education in the UK.

Exam coaching is compulsory for all pupils and the cost will be dependent on the number of pupils in the class. All details about exam coaching are given out at the time of entry and may be different for each class.
